How come poor people want their poor choices in life subsidized?

Your story is awesome. I think subsidizing the poor helps everyone out, to a point. I am against minimum wage and most all transfer payments. But, they do reduce crime. You have to keep that in mind. Surely, though, the cost is more than the benefit.
